Insulin is the body's number one anabolic or building stimulator. It is the key to recovery, strength, bulk, and energy. It is the main anabolic off/on switch. It sets the body-buidling mechanism into motion.

You see, insulin allows nutrients to get into the muscle cell. Without a good supply of insulin, the recovery and rebuilding of the cell cannot take place. Therefore, insulin stimulation is the number one job of a good protein/carbohydrate muscle recovery drink.

The two main stimulators of insulin production in the body are carbohydrates and protein, especially three amino acids called the Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs).

Most companies just load a label with protein, various vitamins, etc., and dump these into powder. They then develop a name, make some of the claims you read earlier, and sell the stuff.

But one company on the market, the Shaklee Corporation, took a different approach, one not taken by the other companies, but one I feel all should take…the scientific approach. Here is how they arrived at the delivery system for their product called Physique.

As we said, it is known that carbohydrates and protein stimulate insulin production. The Shaklee Corporation considered two questions that probed more deeply.

One, what is the best balance of amino acids in the protein for stimulation? It is one containing around 40 percent of branched chain amino acids.

Two, what is the best ratio of carbohydrate to protein? (Divid the carbohydrate by the protein.) The ratio came out to be 2.2 to 2.7.
Shaklee developed a release mechanism based on these deeper questions and current research. They called it "Bio-Build," and it became the core of the delivery system of their product, Physique.

The research on this project was so good that it was accepted for publication in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 1987:46:474-80. A later study by Dr. John Ivy providing even more proof of the power of this drink appeared in the May 1992 issue of the Journal of Applied Physiology. These are peer reviewed, refereed journals. It is a great honor to have research accepted by such publications.

Let me say this loud and clear. Physique is the only product of its type on the market that has undergone this type of legitimate, quality, clinical testing. The rest have claims and endorsements by sports figures who are well paid to say the things they say, but the Shaklee Corporation has the solid research behind Physique.

Remember, if the science is solid, the product will work.
