What does an
11-year-old McDonald's cheeseburger
look like?

THE AVERAGE PERSON IN AMERICA TODAY HAS AN IMMUNE SYSTEM THAT IS OPERATING AT ONLY ABOUT 70% EFFICIENCY.

We talk too much about the cost of good nutrition and too little about the cost of bad nutrition.

Following are eight very real nutrition problems in America that account for our poor immune response. There are more than eight, but these are pretty obvious:

  1. The new food pyramid is excellent, but only 3-10% choose to eat this way.
  2. Every year since 1992, an astounding 12,000 new foods are introduced into our stores. Most are man-made nutrition disasters. Many fail and are removed from the shelves, only to be replaced by another.
  3. Why do we eat this stuff? It's very simple‚ÄĒmultimedia advertising. The food business is a huge business. They spend billions to convince you to buy their products.
  4. We want convenience, which means ease of preparation or use. Families all seem to be on different schedules. The traditional sit-down, relaxed family dinner has gone the way of the hand-held can opener. Now we have the microwave oven. These "dinners" pass through a phenomenal amount of processing and lose nutrition at each step. The food must be washed, stored, cut, sliced, peeled, precooked, mashed, mangled, mushed and loaded with chemicals to replace flavor, color and texture.
  5. The National Cancer Institute (NCI) and others are strongly urging us to consume at least two servings of fruits and three vegetables a day.
  6. A high-fiber diet can prevent various cancers, constipation, hemorrhoids, reduce cholesterol and help us with a whole host of other problems. The average American only eats 12-14g of fiber a day, far short of the recommended 30 grams.
  7. The greatest curse of all is that Americans eat for taste not nutrition.
  8. A strong program of supplementation could cut billions from the medical costs of our nation. Some will say that food supplements are too costly to take on a regular basis. If we seriously consider our priorities, surely we will decide a nation that can afford to spend 30 million dollars (or more) on candy for its children on one Halloween night can afford food supplements for the children and themselves throughout the year.
